“Savard Faire” to launch industry’s first FREE professional video server

Montreal, January 15 2010 - “Savard Faire’, a Television consulting and development firm, is launching free video server software at the upcoming NAB 2010 to be held in Las Vegas this April.

“We have been working with a wide range of customers, from the small web ventures (new to pro video) to the worlds’ top broadcasters trying to find new solutions in this rapidly evolving market” commented Stéphane Savard founder of “Savard Faire”. “Everybody has been searching for a simple, advanced solution that can match the rhythm of change. Ubiquitous video means there is need for video servers everywhere: playing to air, to the web, on monitors in studio, for production or for public display. Simply, there is a plethora of applications for video server but existing solutions are limited and expensive”.

Mr. Savard a highly regarded television professional is well known for his innovative solutions and his “out of the box” thinking. His designs are behind Miranda’s successful iControl and Kaleido products as well as Current TV’s (Al Gore’s TV/Web initiative) global broadcast infrastructure .

“Savard Faire” has assembled a very capable, dedicated team that have been developing professional software for over 25 years. “Video servers are nothing new to us. Building and upgrading facilities, we felt that our customers were paying a significant premium for old server architecture and antiquated capabilities. For us, it made sense to leverage Apple Quartz technologies to create a breakthrough product that can be used everywhere” says Mr. Savard. “Some will doubt that a free product can be more stable and contain more features that one that cost tens of thousands of dollars, but that is what we have achieved. Better, faster and... free”.

The models of free and open software have been successfully applied in the computer industry during the past decade. However, adaption of that model has been slow in the professional television market. “Savard Faire” is among the first to bring a free software model to this space.

A consulting and development firm, “Savard Faire” revenue comes from consulting contracts. “Our approach is to sit down with our customers and understand their business. We immerse ourselves in their ideas and concepts. We then use our unique insights into technology to turn their vision into reality. We are not a system integrator. We typically write the RFP and help our customers choose the right SI for implementation. Often, the commercially available solutions are incomplete and do not fit their unique business model. In those cases, we use our software development expertise to develop the missing pieces. Developing our own free video server helps us to simplify most of the projects that we are involved in. We think it makes business sense. We will only charge to develop integration of those servers within the customer workflow if this is necessary, but wether they use 1 or 100 servers, there is no fee to pay! Of course, in many applications, no consulting or custom development is required and people are free to use the software completely for free, no strings attached!”

The product will be available to “Savard Faire” customers starting at NAB in April 2010, in the meantime, customers with pressing needs can communicate with company headquarters to sign up in the “beta” program.

“Savard Faire” is a consulting and development firm based in Montreal and operating project worldwide.
